It’s Not the End of the World

Favorite thing I’ve read on the internet today comes from Darrel Pursiful at the Dr. Platypus blog, addressing himself on May 21 to the followers of the guy who predicted the “rapture” would happen at 6 pm on that date:

The church is a mess—except when it isn’t.

If I may be so blunt, it wasn’t the mainstream of institutional Christianity that jumped on the false teaching of a May 21 rapture. You did that. The rest of us weren’t taken in. Would you like to know why? At least in part it was because we were connected to an interpretive community that was bigger than one man with a Bible and a calculator.

I love that, “the church is a mess–except when it isn’t.” So true. Also true about reading the Bible in a bigger community than one little man or one little group. If you’re the first person or group that ever saw X in the Bible, be cautious.

About katiekind

Enjoying the second half of life. I have three sons who are the apples of my eye and a wonderful husband of 35 years--those are the important things. Long ago, out of the blue, I became a Christian. It was something I never planned on, but what joy it has been. I do website development and I like to read and garden and paint and I love beauty and truth.
