We forgot to bring our camera (the photo is from Saturday) but Ds17 started at shortstop on varsity again tonight in the district tournament! They won against their cross-town rivals in front of a big crowd. Ds17 played shortstop but didn’t bat — they used a DH who did a great job for them tonight.
He turned two double plays and made one great running and leaping catch! In all he got 6 outs. Not bad for a kid who warmed the varsity bench all season (while pitching and shortstopping for JV).
He was so excited! We were so excited! The other parents were so excited! The catcher’s mom put it in words–she came up to me after the game with tears in her eyes–she said she’d seen him working hard, and keeping up a good attitude all season, and making choices to play JV for the love of the game, and it was so exciting to see him take his place on the starting squad after all that. And it’s true: in his low-key way, he has been very humble yet very tenacious.
Tomorrow night they face a team that seriously outplayed them earlier in the season, and no one expects they’ll win, but you never know!
