I like days like today a lot. We went out to Mayfield to watch baseball. D16 pitched a good game but the team did lose unfortunately. However, he pitched well and was encouraged. All the way over and all the way back, and indeed, all afternoon, Scott and I read Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. Just finished it. What a wonderful, beautifully written book.
Whilst we were sitting out on the front porch reading it, Justin pedaled up the driveway on his bike, with his son in the little bikeseat. We visited a little while M ran. M had spotted D16’s basketball lying across the yard, and apparently this was just the ticket. His dad got him going in chasing after the ball. He pursued that ball from one side of the yard to the other, back and forth, back and forth, as if soccer-playing ran in his bloodline. [Update: it does, via his mom.] He’s very quick and light on his feet for a two year old, and each time he took off after the ball–this was so cute–he would turn his head and cast a beatific smile upon us.
Meantime, D16 spent the afternoon watching ballgames and hanging out with other guys on the team.
