Feb — After the cold spell, warm weather

I hope it wasn’t the set-up for a sucker punch. Today and yesterday, the weather has been in the 60’s and sunny. I went out and did some light pruning of the roses. I read in my rose book that you can prune too much, but not too little. So I decided this year to try just shaping up the shrub roses and pruning out dead canes. It was such a mild winter that there were not many of those, unlike last year. It was a very small and easy job.

I can hardly wait to see them spring back to life.

Monday I attended a master class given by Scott Conklin down at the university. It was really interesting. He’s obviously a really good teacher. He had so many different metaphors to help the students associate a mental picture with the change he was suggesting. Afterwards Scott (my Scott) and I had lunch in the T room. It was really a fun day all in all.

I feel the winter funk lifting.

About katiekind

Enjoying the second half of life. I have three sons who are the apples of my eye and a wonderful husband of 35 years--those are the important things. Long ago, out of the blue, I became a Christian. It was something I never planned on, but what joy it has been. I do website development and I like to read and garden and paint and I love beauty and truth.

Emilie raked for me today. Last fall I had Joey weed things out. My concern was that a few things that were not weeds were pulled, so I told him yesterday that I was waiting….just waiting because I know my flowers I acknowledge them as they make their appearance and I would know if some had met their doom. He just looked at me!

I got 3 gardening books for valentine’s day. I yearn for long spring days.
